In the most recent Salon we held on March 13, we invited three architecture practitioners to share their experience with the creation of spaces and spatial programs that explore the challenges of community-centric designs: from rural to urban centres, the presented projects tackle regenerative practice and relational strategies of engagement that come involved when designing for both old and new social constituencies.

Our speakers include Zhang Miao from architecture studio MAT Office, a Beijing based practice that focuses on spatial renewal and community making particularly looking at younger generations of urban dwellers; Zhao Liqun of MONO office, an architect and urban planner whose research and projects look at regeneration augmented by digital technologies; and Benjamin Beller a French architect active in China since 2010 with his studio BaO Architects, whose works span from temporary to permanent interventions in both rural and urban contexts, with a pronounced attention to the participatory dimension of place-making.

As part of the one-year program Significant Others – Incomplete by Design organized by The Global School, the Salon series is an informal gathering of invited professionals in the fields of design at large held monthly in the School of Art & Design at BIFT.
